“The fairest picture the whole world affords” – Mark Twain said of Lake Tahoe.

Greetings and Salutations from beautiful Lake Tahoe! I believe the photos speak for themselves, so I think I’ll let them, but first a few interesting facts about the Lake.

With a shoreline of 75 miles around, Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It stretches 12 miles across and is nearly 22 miles long.

At 1,645 feet deep with an average of 1,000 ft., Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S. behind Crater Lake in Oregon.

When at full capacity, Lake Tahoe stores around 39 trillion gallons of water, enough water to cover the entire state of California with 14.5 inches of water.

63 streams flow into the lake, but only one flows out and none of the water ever reaches the ocean.

This is the Rubicon Point Lighthouse.  It was the highest elevation Lighthouse on a navigable body of water in the world.  Built 1919, it was one of four “navigationalonal lamps” on Lake Tahoe.

Elo and I have really enjoyed our time here.  Hiking and mountain biking to our hearts content.  Today we arose to smoke in the air, but not too bad.  Elo rode and I hiked at Echo Lake.  You can see from the photo below its quite hazy compared to the photos from yesterday above.

We were at a campground on Fallen Leaf Lake just about a mile south of Lake Tahoe.  It was gorgeous as well and afforded lots of hiking and biking right from the campground.

Fallen Leaf Lake, our lake.

Sadly, I messed up the reservations so we abruptly had to leave today thinking we had another night to relax.  Oh well, there are certainly worse things.  It’ll be interesting to see where we end up tonight heading into a weekend with everything full up, so stay tuned.

Until next time…

Thanks! Who that is? Gotta fill in your name or else it’ll say anonymous…unless of course you want to be anonymous and that’s perfectly alright. 😊

The facts were fascinating. I haven’t been there since the 90’s. Seems odd that only one stream flows out and so many flow in! Really enjoyed the beautiful photos and facts! Thanks for sharing! Have a safe and fun continued journey together! Hugs to you both! Melissa
